ONDŘEJ VOSTATEK HAS BROUGHT 8TH PLACE FROM VALENCIA

4. 5. 2018
On 28–29th April 2018, the second event of FIM CEV Repsol was held at a circuit in Valencia. After not having much success in the qualification, Ondřej Vostatek managed to place eighth in the European Talent Cup category, moving one place up on the overall championship scoreboard.

Training runs in the European Talent Cup category were once again divided into two groups, with twenty-six racers each. Thanks to the racer standings after the Estorilo races, Ondřej Vostatek moved to group A. At first, Ondřej had to adapt from Pre-moto 3 and practice motard to Moto 3 Honda NSF 250 and work towards the optimum motorcycle set-up together with the Igax team. On Thursday, he had already achieved the test times and there was a real chance of making it to the top ten in qualifications. After the last Friday training, the team claimed that the transmission needs to be different from that used for the qualification. Due to this change, it was necessary to basically start all over again. Even though Ondřej gradually improved his times, it still was not ideal and he only managed to do well enough to achieve the eleventh position in the group. Ondřej was among the best in sectors S1, S2 and S4, but he still struggled in S3 and fell behind his opponents. He had somewhat improved his time in the second qualification, but the standings did not change. In the final summary of both groups (adding racers from A and B alternately), it meant the 23rd starting position.

Ondřej had a good start in the first race and moved a few positions ahead from the 23rd. He would gradually fight his way to the tenth to twelfth position as the leading group started to separate. Every single position was to be fought over. Three rounds before the end of the race, three racers crashed together, ending the race prematurely. This meant that our racer had placed 8th, which is great.

In the second race, extreme headwind started blowing, taking effect especially in sector S3. After the start, Ondřej had once again gained a few positions and kept up with the leading group for a long time. In sector S3, however, he started falling behind. He did not fight for points this time and ended up placing 18th. However, he still improved in the overall standings and holds the 14th place with 15 points.

After the races, Jan Vostatek said:

"It is important for us that we are gaining some points. It was insanely even and all of my opponents rode very well. Over thirty racers managed to score points, which I think clearly shows what a high-quality championship the Talent Cup is. Unfortunately, the qualification did not go as we imagined, but we still definitely belong among the top ten performance-wise. Since we now have a 3-weeks break from racing, we will try and implement all the information available to us into training and preparation, so that we put on the best performance possible in Barcelona. Ondřej really likes the Barcelona Circuit and will certainly want to make it up for the recent events. We thank everyone for their support, for which we are very grateful, and hope that we will be able to satisfy our fans and partners with another nice result," said Jan Vostatek in conclusion.
