ONDŘEJ VOSTATEK AMONG THE FASTEST IN ARAGON

12. 10. 2017
After the CEV Spanish Championship racing at Albacete, Ondřej Vostatek moved to Aragon where the FIM CEV REPSOL Junior World Championship took place on 7th and 8th October. It marked his seventh meeting with the European Talent Cup category best riders.

After an excellent performance in the previous race, Ondřej Vostatek entered the Thursday and Friday training sessions in high spirits and with great determination. During both free training sessions, he confirmed his perfect form by consistently clocking excellent times and without any doubt was one of the fastest riders. The first qualification which saw him finish fifth confirmed that. He entered the second qualification with a clear goal to win a first row starting position. Almost immediately after the start of the qualification, he clocked his best time which no opponent could beat for 35 minutes. Approaching the end of the qualification, three riders managed to beat that time, seeing Ondra finish fourth. Although Ondřej managed to improve his time by a further 0.2 seconds, he ended with a fifth place at the start and a start from the second row for the second time this year. He ranked among the 15-17 year-old seasoned elite who are clearly aiming for the Moto3 Junior World Championship.

Ondřej had a good start in the first race and immediately joined the leading group fighting for victory. He briefly gained fourth position but the riders gave no space and the ranking changed with each turn. He was around 0.2 seconds behind the first rider and close battles were going on during the whole race. Ondřej was usually around fifth to eighth place and his rare ability to overtake others at each turn worked to his advantage. When entering the "Laguna Seca" spin (similar sector to the one on the U.S. circuit) he was doing well to retake his lost position. Sadly, an incident happened during the eighth round of the race. In the right turn of the spin, our rider overtook the Spanish rider Alex Toledo who during his subsequent left turn crashed his motorcycle against Ondra's front wheel. This led to an accident and the race was stopped with a red flag. Luckily, Ondřej did not suffer any injuries and after the motorcycle was repaired, he was able to enter the second race.

Once again, he managed to start the race well and took sixth place after the first turn. Many riders were going at high speed, especially on straight sections, and they did well to cover the space during turns so there wasn't much space for overtaking. However, the battle raged on until the very end of the race and the whole group of riders reached the finish together. At the end, Ondřej finished the race in the leading group and placed eighth, 1.1 seconds behind the winner. After one rider was penalized, he moved to seventh place.

After the races, Jan Vostatek said:

"We were very well prepared. Ondra felt really good and wanted to fight for a place on the podium. Sadly, there was that accidental fall from fifth place and all hope was gone. We were very disappointed because that was the closest we were to top three this season. What can you do, that's what races are. Most importantly, Ondřej is all right and we will keep on trying. Luckily, our team managed to put the bike together and Ondřej at least managed to win some nice points for seventh place. Apart from that, the races were as they should be and it was a great pleasure to watch all the battles. Big congratulations to all opponents for their performance," Vostatek concluded.
