VOSTATEK IS CURRENTLY HOLDING 4TH PLACE IN CEV, SPAIN

28. 6. 2018
On the third weekend of June 2018, another event of the CEV Championship was held at the Navarro circuit in Spain. 13-year-old Ondřej Vostatek has been doing well once again in Pre-moto3, gaining precious points for 6th place. In the overall championship standings, he is still holding an excellent 4th place, which is the best placement ever held by a Czech racer in this championship.

Even during practice on Thursday, Ondřej has already been getting better times by two seconds per lap compared to his times during tests, making it look like the Czech racer could be a serious podium contender. He had finished 7th in qualification, with his main opponents in the second row. In the warm-up on Sunday, he had moved one more place higher.

In the race, Ondřej had started well and has been keeping up with the leading group. In the second lap, he had his best time on this track and was capable of matching the tempo of his opponents. In the third lap, he attempted to get a position ahead, but fumbled an attempt at taking an advantageous turn. After this manoeuvre, he lost contact with the leading group and fell back to seventh place. During the next three laps, he got to 6th position. He managed to get and keep a two-second lead and started to catch up to the leading group. Unfortunately, the loss was too large to compensate for, meaning Ondřej finished 6th in the race. Midway through the season, Ondřej is holding 4th place overall with 59 points, 4 points behind the holder of 3rd place. Everything is suggesting that the championship will be dramatic to the very end.

After the races, Jan Vostatek said:

"The Spaniards have been getting even better times than last year, despite this year's rule changes that reduce maximum motorcycle engine power by four hp in Pre-moto3. We have been working intensely both on the bike and Ondřej's actual racing. We have been trying make changes in his driving style as well as track awareness. The good part is that we know what to work on. If we succeed at that, I believe we will once again be contending for the podium. Despite that, I still think that fourth place mid-season is a great result. No other Czech racer has succeeded at this, not to mention at the age of 13," concluded Jan Vostatek.
